Most rug cleaners want your rug in the back of their truck. I've never understood why anybody in Bethpage should put up with that.
Out here, sending a rug off means rolling it up, wrestling it into a truck bed, and going without it for a week or two. Some of the rugs we see along US-31E have been in the same family for decades. Nobody wants those riding around the county.
Cleaned where it lies
We clean area and oriental rugs right on your floor. No pickup, no drop-off. The tech looks the rug over first: the fiber, the dyes, the fringe, and if it's hand-knotted wool or a machine-made synthetic, because those two want very different handling. Then it gets cleaned in place with barely enough moisture to do the job.
Little water means a quick dry and a low risk of dyes bleeding or the backing drawing up. The area rug cleaning and oriental rug cleaning pages go into more detail.
Between visits, turn your rugs every few months so sun and foot traffic wear them evenly. Every so often, flip one over and vacuum the back. You'll be surprised how much grit falls out of the knots.
The sofa and the carpet, same trip
Same idea with the couch and the good chairs. A farmhouse sofa that has sat through three generations of Sunday dinners holds a lot of dust and skin oil, and it holds smells too. Our upholstery cleaning works on it right where it sits. There's no soap involved, so the fabric doesn't dry stiff or tacky, and most pieces are ready for company by supper.
Pet hair and dander work down into the cushions and the seams between them. We spend extra time on the arms and headrests. That's where skin oil collects, and it's why those spots look a shade darker than the rest of the piece.
Some fabrics are tagged for dry cleaning only, and a few old stains have set for good. We read tags and test a hidden spot first, and you'll hear what we expect before anything gets wet.
Wall-to-wall carpet usually rides along on the same visit. The cleaning fizzes dirt up from deep in the pile, leaves nothing behind to attract more, and the carpet dries while we're working on the couch. One trip to Bethpage can knock out the rugs, the carpet and the sofa.
If you've got an heirloom piece, say so when you call 615-380-7554. We'd like to know about it before we pull into the drive.
