Town homes are easy to love and hard on carpet. The layout keeps everything close, which is great for family life, and it also funnels every trip through the same few feet of floor. Front door to living room. Living room to stairs. Up the stairs, down the short hall, into the bedrooms. Repeat a few thousand times.

The problem with compact layouts
In a bigger house, traffic spreads out across several routes. In a town home it can't. So the paths show up sharply: a darker, flatter lane from the entry, a gray stripe down the center of each stair, a worn patch where the hallway turns.

How the appointment went
This carpet needed more than a quick vacuum, and the owner wanted it done without losing the day.
We started by looking. That sounds obvious, but it's why a job can be efficient. We checked the traffic lanes, the entry, the stairs, and the edges along the baseboards where dust collects, and we asked the owner what bothered them most. After that we knew exactly where to spend the time.
Leftover soap is the reason a spot you cleaned with a rental machine turns dark again a week later. It stays in the fibers and grabs new dirt. Our solution doesn't have any, so there's nothing to leave behind.
We also keep the water low. Carpet doesn't need soaking to get clean, and in a town home there's no spare room to retreat to while a wet floor dries all afternoon. Most town homes are dry and walkable in around an hour, and this one was no exception.
The rooms looked brighter afterward. The entry and stair lanes blended back in, the carpet felt softer underfoot, and the stale smell was gone. Because nothing stayed in the fibers, the clean look should hold up longer too.
What town home owners ask us
How often? Every 6 to 12 months for most homes, closer to six with pets or kids. Book before the carpet looks bad. Keeping a carpet clean is a lot easier than rescuing one.
Furniture? Just pick up the small stuff like toys and shoes. If there's something heavy you want cleaned under, tell us when you book.
Vacuuming first helps, especially in the busiest areas, but we don't require it.
The traffic lanes usually improve a lot, since they're mostly packed soil and oil. Fibers that are truly crushed from years of wear may not fully spring back, and we'll tell you honestly if that's what we're seeing.
The dog can have the living room back as soon as the carpet is dry. For accidents, our odor and stain removal enzyme follows the urine down into the pad.
Between visits, vacuum slowly, especially the stairs and the entry path, and don't skip the edges. Blot spills and never scrub. Use less spot cleaner than you think you need. Keep shoes by the door. Move the furniture around once in a while so one strip of carpet isn't taking all the weight.
